As the WTT Champions event in Macao approaches, two athletes are preparing to make their mark in unique ways: Spain’s Alvaro Robles and Sweden’s Linda Bergström. Both players have had breakout seasons, and Macao offers the next stage in their evolving careers.

Alvaro Robles: A Breakout Year

For Alvaro Robles, 2024 has been a career-defining year. After climbing to World No. 30, the Spaniard is set to make his debut at the WTT Champions event. “It’s been a long journey, and reaching the Top 32 is incredibly rewarding,” Robles shares. Having reached two WTT singles finals this season, Robles is in the best form of his life.

His success isn’t just about refining his backhand or technique—he’s focused on finding every little edge in his game. “I’m always looking to improve, even if it’s just by 1%,” he explains. Off the table, Robles finds balance by indulging in simple pleasures like reading and exploring local coffee shops.

As he heads to Macao, Robles is eager to continue his upward trajectory, with his sights set on finishing the year strong in the upcoming Champions events.

Linda Bergström: The Defender Defying Expectations

Meanwhile, Sweden’s Linda Bergström is preparing for her fifth WTT Champions event. As one of the few defensive players in a game dominated by attackers, she’s proven that her unique style can take her to the top. “If you had seen me play at 12 or 13, you’d never believe I’d make it to the Top 30,” she admits. Earlier this year, Bergström achieved a career-high World No. 27 ranking, cementing her place among the elite.

With wins over top players like World No. 12 Bernadette Szocs, Bergström’s unpredictability has been key to her success. “My style can catch opponents off guard, especially if they’ve never faced a defender like me,” she says.

Off the court, Bergström is also pursuing a Master’s in psychology, with just one course left to complete. When not playing table tennis or studying, she enjoys unwinding by playing the piano or exploring new places.

The Road Ahead in Macao

As Robles and Bergström gear up for the WTT Champions event in Macao, both players are ready to embrace their unique paths. Robles brings momentum from a season filled with career-best performances, while Bergström offers a style that challenges the norms.

Macao is the next chapter for these two stars, and all eyes will be on them as they aim to make their mark on the biggest stage yet.
